Is There a Homelander in MW 3?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) was released in 2011 as the third installment in the Modern Warfare sub-series of the popular first-person shooter franchise. Developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, MW3 continues the story of Task Force 141’s Captain Price and his team as they battle a Russian terrorist organization across the globe.

One of the most iconic elements of the Modern Warfare games is the diverse roster of playable soldier operators. Operators like Ghost, Soap, Price, and Gaz are well-known in the CoD community. In recent years, the Modern Warfare series has featured operators from popular entertainment properties, like John Rambo from the Rambo films and John McClane from the Die Hard movies.

This has led fans to wonder – is Homelander, the powerful and unstable superhero from the TV series The Boys, a playable operator in MW3?

What is Homelander?

For those unfamiliar, Homelander is the main antagonist in the subversive Amazon Prime series The Boys. Played by Antony Starr, Homelander is the leader of an elite group of corrupted superheroes known as The Seven. While he portrays himself as a noble, patriotic hero to the public, Homelander is actually an unhinged, narcissistic killer who frequently abuses his immense powers.

With his superhuman strength, laser vision, flight, and durability, Homelander is essentially an evil version of Superman. He is an almost unstoppable force, capable of mass destruction if he loses control. Homelander is an interesting character in that he was raised without love, turning him into a dangerous psychopath hiding behind a charming public persona.

Homelander in Call of Duty

The character of Homelander, with his power-hungry narcissism and American patriotism, seems like a natural fit for the aggressive arena of Call of Duty.

In fact, Homelander did recently make his way to the CoD universe as a playable operator skin in 2022’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.

This version of Homelander appears as he does in The Boys Show, complete with his red, white, and blue super suit and flowing cape. The operator pack allows players to control Homelander directly, using his heat vision and super strength to battle enemies.

Homelander was added as part of a collaboration between Call of Duty and The Boys TV series. Other operators from The Boys, like Starlight, Butcher, and Queen Maeve, have also appeared in MWII and Warzone 2.0.

Could Homelander be playable in the earlier Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which came out years before The Boys TV show even existed?

Unfortunately, Homelander is not available as an operator in MW3.

The character was invented by The Boys comic book creator Garth Ennis in 2006 but had yet to reach mainstream popularity when MW3 was launched in 2011.

MW3 featured classic Modern Warfare operators like Price, Soap, Yuri, and Sandman. Celebrity guest characters like Homelander were still years away from becoming a regular occurrence in Call of Duty games.

While there are mods that can add Homelander into MW3 on PC, he is not natively included in the game. The only official way to play as Homelander currently is by purchasing his operator bundle in Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.

Can Homelander Come to MW3 in the Future?

There is always a chance that Homelander could come to past Call of Duty games like Modern Warfare 3 in the future. Call of Duty developers regularly add new cosmetic bundles and operators to older CoD titles to promote new content and keep player counts high.

For example, John Rambo and John McClane were both added as playable 80s action heroes in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2021, despite not actually being in the original 1980s setting of that game.

If Homelander remains popular or gets another surge of interest from The Boys season 4 release, Activision could add him to MW3 as a retroactive crossover. Iconic characters like Homelander are prime candidates for these types of collaborations.

However, with MW3 being over ten years old at this point, the chances seem relatively slim. Most new CoD content focuses on whichever entry is the latest and most active. But fans can always hope for the evil Superman to wreak havoc in MW3 multiplayer someday down the line!

While Homelander has proven to be a hit addition in the latest Modern Warfare II, unfortunately, the tyrannical Supe is not playable in 2011’s Modern Warfare 3. His crossoverOperator bundle was exclusive to recent CoD titles, not available retroactively in past games like MW3.

That said, Activision could opt to bring Homelander to MW3 sometime in the future with exciting new content. For now, fans eager to play as The Boy’s antihero will have to pick up MWII or Warzone 2.0 and purchase the Homelander bundle to experience his devastating powers firsthand.

With new seasons of The Boys and regular CoD updates planned for the future, this likely won’t be the last we see of the terrifying and unhinged Homelander in the Call of Duty universe.
